Biology
The Monsters Inside Us
This project was to create a movie that shows what we know about biology and how we showed it to the public. I felt that I have met the purpose in many ways, I have helped with filming and some other things for creating what the seats and personalities of the charters are meant to be. I have also worked with pulled other people on something secret to the film by creating the space to show the finished film by making it presentable. I think as a group we did well by we all pulled our way and worked hard to complete a funny film that we can enjoy when you feel down or something else. Some warm feedback we hate was that our video was funny and something. I heard that some of the parents wanted to see the film again. I did well with I a professional experiment to show the video.
Some challenges i had was not being able to do match when we were filming. Some challenges we had as a class was we keep wearing different clothing and the amount of time we used to complete. When working on our project we spent time figuring out how exactly we wanted it to look. I think it could of ben better if we took a bit more time when we were placing our different clips togeather so it doesn't go from something that is one thing to somthing else.
Collaboration during this project when well in my app. We worked well togeather and we did well when filming plus we had fun when doing so. If I was to do this project again I think that we would of spend less time on the script and more time on feeling. We will probe also spend more time on the film with the little details like clothing and how something looked. I don't think I will change anything about this project, it was interesting to see what we could do and how we pulled it off. I will only add more time to the project.

Mule Deer In Durango Colorado Reflection
During this project we were assigned groups of 3-4. We were assigned to do our project on the environment, like plant life, animals, and other things that relate to ecology. In my group we decided to do a project on urban deer in Durango, Colorado. We used many different methods, theories, ideas, and skills that helped us complete this project. Most of the skills we either had or learned over the one and a half years we have been at Animas High School. Marilyn was good at making posters even though we each had to make our own, she had the best and was the one to be put on display. Also when it came to creating this project having a good idea on what info is important and what isn't is also very helpful.
Something that was interesting was what I think was how to solve the problems that occur like the bridges that go over the roads or tunnels under. Some other things at well as all the information and the data that was collected was very interesting and fun to learn about. Throughout this project we had a little confusion within the group about who would take on which role. Was also had difficulty trying to decide what topic to research for our project. . Another thing what was driving me a bit crazy was that our research and data person did not get their part of the work done and it wasn't on the paper until the day the project was due which made me and Marilyn a bit worried. Not knowing how far she was on it or if it was done. We were worried that we would fail the project. I learned many things about mule deer in this project with the causes and the things that we could do to help fix. I would have the work done early so you have time to revise it and make it better instead of waiting for the different parts of the write up to be done. I will also have the history of what a person worked on throughout the project to see how much they contributed to the work.
I think that having this knowledge is helpful because I care deeply for animals of any kind, this will help with finding ways to help protect animals from being hit. Along with the project, I learned that many other animals use bridges and tunnels to cross the roads. Not only deer but bears, mountain lions, cougars, and many others. It helped doing this project by understanding that roads and other structures are a dangers to animals that live in the ecosystem.
I wish i had a little more info on how deer learn about the tunnels and other ways to cross without the dangers of getting hit. other words when starting the project i am glad i didn't have any knowledge on them, because it gave me something new to learn about. I feel that the poster was a good idea but if we were able to also use our one program that we know how to use instead of trying to figure the new program out. I worked well with my learning skills because i love to do anything with animals. I think that being part of this project has helped me not always trust people to get things done on time without it being done at the last minut. But having good research it good so you know what you are learning about and how it affects animals, plants, and people.

Question: How has the local urban deer population been affected by highways and roads in town?
Intro-
The montane shrublands ecosystem can be found all over the Durango, Colorado area. Since montane shrublands are present and important part of the community, it is vital that we protect them and everything that lives within them. Mostly small animals ranging from mammals to reptiles live within this ecosystem. Squirrels, snakes, chipmunks and cottontail rabbits are a few examples, however, larger animals such as mule deer can also be found wandering around the town of Durango. People have taken a large portion of what used to be mule deer habitat. While the mule deer do not seem to be too affected by the presence of things such as houses or buildings, roads and highways have become a problem for them. Because there is a fairly large and active community in Durango, many roads have been built which have had an impact on the population of mule deer within Durango. The question is, how has the local urban deer population been affected by highways and roads in town? Mule deer are an important part of the ecosystem and help keep the food chain in balance. Mule deer are a necessity in order to keep everything in the ecosystem stable so if their population starts to drop drastically because of roads and highways something should be done in order to decrease the amount of deer getting struck by cars and restore the mule deer population.
Research and data-
There has been an increase in mortality of mule deer by highways, even with fencing lower speed limits. Highway 160 from Durango to Hesperus and Mancos is a hot spot for highway collisions with deer. Some concerns have been discussed such as lack of speed limit enforcement, lack of funding for deer crossings, also lack of penalties, and also a problem of collecting better data on the highway mortality(from lack of reports of hit deer.) It is interesting how highway mortality is not rated most important to handle, according to the polling results it’s only 7% compared to the 20% predation has. Yet in Durango 23% of our local deer population decline is due to highway mortality. This also affects the ecosystem around the deer, deer consume producers. Producers are considered plants, trees, shrubs, and grasses. Deer keeptypes of plant species from overgrowing and pushing out other native plants. Deer population is also important for predators such as black bears. If the deer population is low bears and mountain lions alike are affected. Mountain lions are known for attacking humans from low food supply, black bears are known to get into trash and houses when their natural food supply is low. Keeping people safe is another aspect, the raise in human and deer collisions also raises danger levels for other people around the crash area. Another part is human and predator interactions. Black bears getting into houses and trash, and mountain lion attacks on biking paths and wandering into more populated human suburbs, especially in areas like Durango West, Hesperus, and Mancos.
Solutions-
Some possible impacts on urban deer in Durango, CO are landscapes, predators( bears, cougars, etc, habitat, highways, hunting, and disease. Many deer and other animals are being impacted in how they live which has been effected in many ways. The CPW (Colorado Parks and Wildlife) track and mark down the population of mule deer in the west and northwestern Colorado. There are many roads and highways around Durango which force the deer to cross them so they can get to their water, food, and their migration patterns. With all the roads around, deer cross them frequently and can cause many car accidents and many of the mule deer lives will be lost. There are a lot of ways to help prevent deer from crossing roads. Since their migration routes can not be changed by humans there needs to be new safe routes designed for them and other animal, by making ways for them to go over roads, creating undergrounds tunnels that keep deer off the highways and then brings them under the road and back out on the other side, or make it harder to cross in certain places where there are many cars like in town or on major highways.

Mule Deer live nearly all over colorado and in almost in every type of ecosystem. Mule deer weigh between 100 to 475 lbs. The color of their coats range from a reddish brown to a grayish brown depending on the time of year. The muzzle, throat, and rump of the deer are all white. The tail is thin, white and has a black tip at the end. Their ears are large, with black tips, they have edges of white on the inside of the ear. Most mule deer generally live for about 10-15 years.
