Time And Space Project
Stage #1
During this project, we red two different books one in humanities and in math. We red Slaughterhouse Five and Flatland. Each book had many different themes in them. They both dealt with some kind of time or dimension in each book., which they are connected and not connected. I learned from the book Slaughterhouse Five that there is no such thing as death there is the past, present, and future. They see death as they were alive in the past and there should be nothing to be sad over. In flatland, the characters are all different kinds of shapes. Each kind of shape has there one duty to uphold, keeping in mind that all the sides and angles for that shape are the same length. By understanding the different shapes and angles is how their community works. By thinking on a 2-dimensional plane we are able to see how they look, but if we were to look at them as they see each other we will see straight lines and won't be able to tell what shape they are.
Drift Between Emotion and Logic
For this project, we decided to make an art piece based on the theme emotion vs. logic. The piece is split in half diagonally to define a separation. One side is decorated with many different colors including, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink, purple, and turquoise. To start off, many people associate colors and emotion with one another. For example, green is considered the color of envy and yellow is the color of happiness. Each emotion can be represented by a color. In our art piece red is passion, orange is suffering, yellow is anger, green is sadness, blue is surprising, pink is calm, purple is happiness, and turquoise is fear. This may seem mixed up from the norm but emotions are just that. There is no clear definitive in emotion. The final emotion featured through color is confusion which is represented by the blending of all the colors. Confusion is a prominent emotion featured in Slaughterhouse 5, the book we read in humanities. Slaughterhouse 5 is a book about a man named Billy Pilgrim who becomes “unstuck” in time, which means he is able to travel to random moments in his life. Often times the characters are confused about their present situation or the outcomes of certain things. Two other prominent emotions which are represented in our piece by the red heart were pain and love.
The other side of the piece is logic. We represented logic through monochromatic gears and clocks. There is no color because usually logic is black and white but it can also be confusing. That is way the clocks all point to different times. The clocks simply represent time and it’s existence. The gears represent a deeper cognitive thinking that goes along with logic. Every shape was made with either a compass or a ruler in order give off a ‘factory-made’ impression. This side connects mostly to the book we read in math, Flatland.

Reflection
(MATH) During the two weeks of reading the book flatland. We had to put our minds into a mindset of something 2D like you whar flat on a piece of paper. In the book, we learned how the flatlanders see and how they are ranked in different ways. During the book, we learned that the flatlanders only see lines, by seeing the different shades. Let's say you have a line, in the middle of the line there is a dark dot (meaning a point) of an angle and fades out on either side from there. This method is used by the upperclassmen. The other way to tell is to feel the angles of the shape / another flatlander. Depending on how many sides and angles you have determined what rank you are, The larger you angels are the smarter you are (compared to the book).
After learning how they do things and watching the movies which started to get into the different dimensions, first the 3rd dimension to the very end where they show a small pick into what is the 4th dimension. Which changed my mind on wondering what is the 4th dimension and what does it look like? Which started to make me think if there is such thing as a 5th dimension or even a 6th and how will you get there.
(HUMANITIES) During our time reading the book slaughterhouse five we follow a person named Billy during a time of war there-there are people know as the Tra fado Rion who don't believe there are such things as death and they are still alive in the past and doesn't matter if they are alive.
(CONNECTED) In many ways the two books are connected in many different ways, both books dealt with war, dimensions or time, and they each had there one way of seeing the world. My learning depth and because the thought of dimensions could possibly be time as well and how do they connect to each other.
When thinking of are art piece my partner and I decided to do it on emotions and logic. We decided to divide our paper diagonally so the top side of the paper will be painted different colors meaning different emotions. We added a hart to demonstrate love and red means passion. On the other side of the line, we have gears and clocks hanging down from the diagonal line. This side of the art piece has a dull like coloring to it.
Are art piece didn't change my mind when thinking about the book. I think the art piece set my up for part 2 when we go to meow wolf to an interactive build. Some of the things that are making me very excited are the trip we are going to talk to meow wolf, the building process, and the final project completed.

Stage 2-3 Shattered: A Narrative Art Exhibit
Some ways I have contributed to the exhibition was by creating walls that we used to paint and create different rooms. That have taken a lot of time to complete mainly when you keep running out of wood which puts the whole thing on hold.
When creating the exhibition we spent many weeks working on our walls but it was a bit difficult because we didn't get the room we needed right away. We all separated into different groups and worked on what was the most interesting thing in each of our perceptions. While my job we creating the walls with the other builders there were some people that built a car and a tree. Others worked on the painting, lights, sound, and other things that will help with the overall creation of the project. When the project was complete it felt like a different room, it felt good to show what we were able to do in a short amount of time. During the creation of the project, I was in charge of creating walls along with the rest of my group. When the walls were done it gave the artists the time to start painting on them. |
Reflection
When we went to meow wolf it gave us a lot of things to think of and many ways we could create an exhibition kinda like it. Meow wolf made us want to create the same feeling at it did in Santa Fe. I think out of the 21-century skills I learned to work better with Collaboration and teamwork when building the walls. But that I hate skateboards inside the school. Deffently when you're trying to work and they are skating around and banging on the floor.
With this project being the biggest one of the year this year I felt that I did my best and put a lot of time into doing my part of the project even staying after school sometimes. Some things I took away from this project was that it is surprising that you can complete something big like this project in only a few weeks even when you have some problems. I think I developed my building skills during this project.
The time and space project did not change my mind on what a project based learning school is, it made it seem more like a project-based learning school. Instead of sitting at a desk, we got up and did things.
